This will be my last blog for a while, I have another writing assignment and my capacity indicator is bottoming out on top! It's been fun!

As I sit in front of my computer this morning, I'm suddenly aware of a steady, constant, purring sound. That disturbance is my computer dilligently stuffing sound into empty spaces around it's workspace. That's about all I know about computers. The question arises, "Are there empty spaces around my workspace that are waiting for my Purr?" Meanwhile, I'll just keep coaxing my treadmill powered scooter uphill! | | | |

April 25, 2008 “Hello Dad” my pickup is in twenty feet of water at the bottom of the lake and I don/t have a ride home.” While fishing in a heated dock, our son heard the scraping noise triggered by his pickup rubbing the dock’s anchor cable as it floated across. He looked out of the dock window just in time to helplessly watch his 1985 Toyota float a total of about thirty yards from shore before sinking to the bottom of the lake. Two and a half hours later the accumulated attendance around the heated dock included – several, officially dressed sheriff’s vehicles, three or four park rangers (one retired), wearing proper ID patches, a local, jolly wrecker service, a cold water rescue diving unit, half of the nearest town’s population and me. The ranger’s first attempt at locating the drowned pickup truck was by probing with a fifteen foot grapple pole. They couldn’t find anything because their pole was too short. Next attempt was with their sonar equipped rescue boat which was successful. They verified the water depth at twenty feet and anchored a buoy to mark the main attraction which, now could only be seen waveing at us from on top.. The cold water rescue divers found the Toyota contentedly reclining, leaning back in the nice cool mud with it’s top at the bottom, kicking it’s feet up. They anchored the tow chain around the rear axle and a million eyeballs watched the inverted land landing performed not too gracefully by this suddenly very popular Toyota pickup truck. Both front and rear windshields popped out as the top caved in on this inverted pickup while the cab was being coaxed to jump the bank and follow the bed onland. “Hey look, my fishing pole carrying rack is still there!” The jolly wrecker operator kindly offered to winch the "catch" up vertically so our son could pose beside it with his fishing pole and landing net. This one didn't get away but was impossible to clean! We aren’t quiet sure what possessed the Toyota to go for a swim but we are aware that old Windy Gust was at that shoreline and we suspect he might have given it a jump start!

At this point, I knew nothing about the poor trapped wallcat. Sitting there contemplating what to do, our daughter decided to investigate rescue possibilities from below. She grabbed a flashlight and wiggled into the crawl space under her house. Once again she tried the worn out “Kitty, Kitty” call. Things were looking up however, because she was flat on her back. Was it her imagination or did “Meow” come from somewhere a little bit closer. With hope building, she called once more. Suddenly she saw a cat’s head poking through a hole beside where the plumbing was installed. With a little coaxing and one period of time, the entire trapped cat emerged! With her hands full of a purring, she made her way back out into our world. Then, she called me and shared her story.

Our daughter was planning to leave for a couple of days, a perfect time to replace soaked wall covering and leaky shower head.. Her house was in town so, supplies were handy. “Just be careful not to leave the cats get out when you go through the door. You’ll probably never see the one cat, he’s shy and will most likely stay under the bed, see you in a couple.” Day 1 – crawl under the house and shut the water off Open the wall and replace bad plumbing Day 2 – install new wall covering and apply new finish, crawl under the house and turn water back on. “Hey, that doesn’t look too bad for ‘old Dad!’ and it’s finished ½ hour ahead of time too!” She was right about the one cat, I never did see him. I left and daughter came home. The first thing she did was call her cats, only one came. Oh, Oh! Could the shy cat have slipped out when I was bringing supplies in? When our daughter called “kitty, kitty” again, she heard a faint response coming from the other room but when she went into the other room, the faint Meow seemed to be coming from the other room. Yes, you guessed it, the Meow was coming from between the rooms, The uncanny realization soon revealed it’s self beyond any shadow of doubt. The ‘shy one’ had become curious and had gotten himself closed up inside the newly finished shower wall! “OH CATS, now what?” I’m using this true story as the test plot for the power of suspense. By now, a trace of suspense should have been ignited, can it stay powered up until Monday when I plan to finish the story? How strong is suspense? Will you come back to the trapped cat story?
