Private Time Reflections
Monday June 18, 2007
The duration of my physical abilities is beginning to stop a ways short of yester - day’s pace. So, I feel the need for small increments of time to relax in throughout a rigorous work day and I’m trying to find a fun ‘fill-in’ for those in-B-tween times. I was hoping I could find that spot in front of the computer, but my skills might fall a ways short of today’s technology in that position. From the research I’ve done on home income, about all I’ve gleaned as far as making a little money on the internet is Multi Level Marketing, hosting a Web page with advertising links and Pyramid Marketing (selling “no end benefit” packages.) It seems like there should be simpler, more fun solutions for earning a small amount of extra cash, doesn‘t it? Shouldn’t one be able to blog for fun and for a profit?

Is it her slim lines and bright face? Is it because she possesses a beautiful ring? Is there a never ending supply of surges within her work tone? Is her charm really that smoothly overpowering? I don’t have the answers but wherever I’ve been, the phone reigns queen over all other priorities! I was waiting my turn at the counter of an auto parts supply store when in due time, an employee asked if he could help me. While I was answering, his phone rang. At that point I could have said, ”My camel needs that second hump to get better mileage” and I’m sure his answer would have remained the same. “I’m sure we have one or if not, we can order one, excuse me, that’s the phone!” So, I obediently began excusing him, longer and longer. He must of seen the edge of frustration before, because he seemed to recognize it approaching. His next message came bouncing off his hand that was rigidly fastened over the mouth piece, “Excuse me just a bit longer, this is a customer and I………………………” I came very close to asking my camel to wait for that second hump and step into my non-customer status. Yep, the hidden charm of the queen of priorities must be a powerful possession. How powerful though, is what’s mind boggling.

Is that car intentionally tailgating the pickup truck, or does it just appear that way? Up one street, around a corner and down the next street and finally into a parking lot.. This live footage was being executed up and over the streets of Wichita KS. The whole incident seemed to be building toward a climatic finish, whatever that was meant to be. The maroon colored Malibu seemed intent on overtaking the dark green pickup truck at all risks. Finally, the driver of the pickup truck wanted to test the validity of his feelings, “I think I’m being followed,” so he exited the street and turned into a large parking lot. Although this must have felt risky to him, he wanted to settle his curiosity for once and for all time, so he parked away from all other vehicles, driving way out to the corner of the parking lot. Sure enough, the maroon colored Malibu pulled in right beside him. He got brave, walked over to the mysterious vehicle and asked my wife if he could help her! My wife said, “I want that bedside stand you have in back of your pickup truck, I have one at home that matches it perfectly.” “Well, I just bought it at an auction, give me $6.00 and it’s yours.” My wife gave him the money and this perfect stranger kindly loaded the bedside stand into the back seat of our little maroon colored Malibu. The climatic result was one happy lady! She came driving home, delightfully anxious to show hubby her treasure. This all happened way back when the frog was still a tadpole.

The Homespun Joke (still spinning)? You change the spin on it, make it funnier! Joke #1 - “Hey Charlie, I didn’t know you started your own business.” “I didn’t” Then I wonder why that noisy dog’s owner told his wife, “I wish Charlie would mind his own business?”

Talk about inquiring minds. When I was a teenager I learned how accurate in detail could really be. Through tedious experiments, I learned exactly how and where to attach firecracker fuses so many inches down a firecracker lighting punk to give a report in a given number of minutes and approximate seconds. I even invited a couple of my closer friends to join in my experimentations. The more accurate our timing became, the larger the crackers got. In our final attempt to experience a L A R G E R report, we poured some raw gun powder into a small jar with a fuse glued into a hole through the lid. We structured this assembly timed for a 15 minute burn before triggering the loudly propelled flight of shredded glass. We drove out to a deserted dirt road, a country road, a dog and cat road. It was just after sunset, when we placed the assembly carefully in the middle of the road. Then we waited until after dark so we could enjoy the flash along with the POP! Finally, we lit the punk and left the area. We drove a good way out into the farmers field to watch this phenomenon. Eight minutes of burn time left, perfect! At approximately forty five seconds of burn time left and counting, car lights appeared over the hill and were coming directly towards our experimental station. In case you’ve never heard the definition of feeling a bit uncomfortable, well at this very moment, the rope tightened very snuggly around what used to be our comfort zone. The car had just cleared the experimental zone by about twenty yards, when everything else happened as planned. We saw the car stop, the driver examined all his tires with his flashlight, then in confusion, tossed his light beam in several different directions, and drove off again. When we finally collected our nerves, we drove to the magical spot in the center of that deserted piece of cat and dog road and our flashlight revealed a depression the size of half a basketball, hollowed right out of the middle of the road. Well, with that blue ribbon performance decorating our curiosity, we graduated with a life long image burned into memory.
