I’ve been considering investing in a metal detector and do some dry land treasure hunting for a hobby. Any advice?

What should we do when we recognize that "Small Talk" with a friend has grown up?

I suppose it’s a good idea, once in a while, to back back to the beginning and start clear over, maybe even take a different path this time. Perhaps we’re ready to make a stab at goals with a fork. What really makes me nervous though, is what if, while we’re backing, our vision blurs or our controls become sticky and we back too far back? I’ve heard it said, “Once you’re willing to go back to the beginning, it’s all down hill from there.” What if we get to coasting backwards, right past the very beginning we were hoping to start over from! How can one begin to come forward again without starting from a beginning? What if we end up stuck at the our lowest point, way out of range of any beginnings? We would not able to harvest, or even hear beginning signals bouncing off the walls. What if we simply end up gravity bound, just spinning behind the beginning? Please help settle my nerves by telling me that if, or when, we’ve backed back too far and coasted down hill out of range, that because of our glowing ambitions, we will have internal energies to burn. Out of nowhere, we will be able to put our best foot forward and kick-start a brand new beginning into existence! Then, instead of spinning behind the beginning, we will be spinning a new beginning!

True or false, the faster you work at completing a task, the more shoddy the end result? This was a hot topic of contention for me during my years as production manager/supervisor. Every company had production standards to meet, and I would often hear, “When speed is engaged, quality will suffer.” Can’t eggs be scrambled equally well in five minutes as in ten? Can’t trash be collected in ten minutes instead of fifteen with blue ribbon results? Can’t shoes be slipped on a little quicker without scuffing the shine? Couldn’t five or ten minutes be shaved off of our grocery shopping and save us money? My platform at work was “The more often you do something, the faster you can do it without sacrificing quality.” My people philosophy was that if you let the employees participate and help them feel needed, they will like to come to work! I feel I partially proved my point when I was in charge of a shift of welders. Every day we worked on completing as many of a specific welded assembly as we could during our shift. The company standard was 12 assemblies per shift. In community with those employees, we studied my philosophy and all agreed to try to find ways to produce more assemblies per shift without allowing quality to slip. Then one day we were able to chalk a big 13 onto the floor. Much to our enjoyment, the other shift caught the spirit and soon we came to work facing a big 14. Friendly competition bounced back and forth between shifts, 15 then 16, until an optimum of 18 welded assembly units per shift became the new company standard! And the most exciting thing about that is, that the employees had fun doing it. So, is your day too short to get everything done? Try making some changes, I’m sure the eggs won’t mind!

Sorry I’m running a little late this morning, I wanted to start the day by putting my best foot forward and I’m still examining my feet!
